Opening night of Jason’s photo show last Wednesday was a lot of fun! And Ladytron of Liverpool really did play the after party on the roof.
Jason’s show, No Tambourines, will be up through March (extended from December!), so if you didn’t get a chance to stop by last week, you can still see his 23 large format photos of Athens musicians any time you check out a show at the Georgia Theatre, or just drop by sometime and ask them to let you take a look. (This marquee pic was shot by our friend and photographer, Terry Allen. He is the one who shot this famous R.E.M. picture.)
IN FACT get yourself over to the Theatre this Saturday to check out our friends Dead Confederate before they hit the road again. You can get tickets for the Dead Confederate show here. Dead Confederate is guaranteed to rock your brain.
And opening up first at 9 sharp will be the Fur Coats. (Don’t try to find Fur Coats online because there isn’t anything (?)) The front man for Fur Coats is Walker Yancey from Birmingham who started playing shows at age 11… Walker is like Johnny Cash’s punk rock grand-kid, on coffee. We think he’s maybe all of 15 now? But he does not mess around.
Walker’s mom Jess Marie is a really talented artist who has a lot to do with the Stranded Art Cooperative in Montevallo, Alabama.
Here is a sketch Walker made in a few minutes for our kids when he was visiting last summer. It’s kind of blurry because I shot this with a phone, but you get the idea.
